昨日に引き続き、蒔絵について、今回は金粉を蒔く時に使う道具について少しご紹介したいと思います。蒔絵は工程毎に使うものや道具も違うので、それもまた面白いポイントです。
Continuing from yesterday, I would like to introduce a little about lacquer work ”Maki-e”, and this time about the tools used when sprinkling gold powder. Maki-e uses different things and tools for each process, which is also an interesting point.

個々人による違い Individual differences
使い方等は大枠は基本の使い方かもしれませんが、細かい部分は使う人によって手の大きさや力具合、使い勝手などは違いますで、あくまで参考程度に捉えていただけましたら幸いです。

基本的には漆は自然由来のもので、漆工芸はそんな生き物のような漆と日々向き合って正解がない中で試行錯誤した『人』によって積み重ねられてきた伝統工芸です。基本的なやり方や材料・道具は色々な人や遺された作品に教えていただけるかもしれませんが、結局は自分でやって試して失敗をたくさんして体得して、自分の中で自分に合ったものを探してゆくもので、正解は自分の中にしかないと思っています。
Basically, lacquer “Urushi” is derived from nature, and lacquer crafts are traditional crafts “Kogei” that have been accumulated by “people” who faced such creature-like lacquer every day and tried and errored without a correct answer. You may be able to teach the basic methods, materials, and tools to various people and the works that have been left behind, but in the end, you can try it yourself, make a lot of mistakes, and learn it, and then you can teach yourself. I’m looking for something that suits me, and I think that the correct answer is only within me.
日本で国宝にもなっている風神雷神図屏風という屏風があります。全く同じ画題、構図、描き方で色々な人が描いています。しかし、いくら真似してもやはり描く人が違えば全く同じものはできません。それが良いところでもあり、面白みになります。
結局はなんでも、いい意味でも悪い意味でも『人』なのだと思っています。
しかし情報収集やヒントは何かをしたり、考える上での重要な材料かと思いますので、少しでも役に立ちましたら幸いです。
There is a folding screen called Wind God and Thunder God (Fuujin Raijin) folding Screen, which is also a national treasure in Japan. Various people are drawing with exactly the same subject, composition, and drawing method. However, no matter how much you imitate, if the person who draws it is different, you cannot do exactly the same thing. That’s a good thing, and it’s fun.
In the end, I think that anything is a “person” in both good and bad ways.
However, I think that information gathering and hints are important materials for doing something and thinking, so I hope that it will be useful even a little.
金粉蒔き道具（準備編）Gold powder sprinkling tool (preparation)

- 粉匙（ふんさじ Fun-saji）Spoon for powder
まず金粉は金粉屋さんから来た時は薬包紙に包まれています。
First of all, gold powder is wrapped in medicine wrapping paper when it comes from a gold powder shop.
薬包紙 Weighing paper
今はもう薬はカプセルや錠剤などが一般的で、薬包紙なんて馴染みがないかもしれませんが、 日本だと昭和30年代ころまでは一般的に使われていました。 今でも化学実験などで使われますので入手は可能です。 「薬包紙」は、日本語の文字通り「薬を包む紙」で「パラピン紙」とも呼ばれます。 量産された比較的安価なものは、グラシン紙のようです。 30.5g/㎡と薄いので2枚重ねて使うことが多いです。 ツルツルしていて、水や油を弾く性質を持ちます。 似た紙質で、少し値段が高く、厚みのある紙だと、 硫酸に含浸させてパルプを膨潤させた硫酸紙というものもあります。 これも「薬包紙」と呼ばれているようです。 この硫酸紙の方が半透明で、こちらも水や油を弾きますが、加えて耐薬品性の高い紙になります。 薬包紙は漆を濾してお茶碗などに入れた後に、蓋紙としても使われています。 また塗った面にこの薬包紙で抑えて塗りムラを無くしたりする使い方もあります。 私は、漆が少量余ってしまった時などに薬包紙に包んで、次回また使うように取って置いたりしています。 また金粉に限らず乾漆粉や微塵貝など粉状のものを保管するのにも活用でき、便利です。 Nowadays, capsules and tablets are common medicines, and medicine wrapping paper may not be familiar to you. When I have a small amount of lacquer left over, I wrap it in a medicine wrapping paper and set it aside for next use. It is also convenient because it can be used not only for storing gold powder but also for storing powdered items such as dry lacquer powder and fine dust shells.
薬包紙の折り方 How to fold medicine wrapping paper
薬包紙には、薬を取りこぼさないようにという折り方があります。
色々な折り方がある中で金粉屋さんからくる折り方を参考までにご紹介します。

両端と上部がしっかり折られているとこぼれる心配のない折り方です。
If both ends and the top are firmly folded, there is no risk of powder spilling.
これも代々受け継がれてきた金粉を大切に保管するための一つの知恵なのかなと思います。

粉鎮 Paperweight for powder
薬包紙で包まれた金粉を使う際に開いた状態を維持するために、留め置く重りです。
A weight to keep open when using gold powder wrapped in weighing paper.
この薬包紙の紙の正方形の半分くらいの長さの横長の粉鎮が重さも安定感がありちゃんと固定されて、個人的には一番使い易いという結論に至って写真の粉鎮を愛用しています。漆屋さんで購入できます。重りであれば、別にコインや小瓶など何でもいいと思います。
ただ粉が舞って上に乗るので、粉をサッと払いやすい形のものがオススメです。
I personally use the paperweight in the photo because I came to the conclusion that the horizontally paperweight, which is half the length of the square of this medicine wrapping paper, has a stable weight and is fixed properly, and is the easiest to use. You can buy it at the lacquer shop. If it is a weight, you can use anything such as coins or small bottles.
However, the powder will fly and ride on top, so I recommend a shape that makes it easy to remove the powder.
粉匙 Spoon for powder
金粉をすくって粉筒に入れたり、すくってかけたりする道具です。
It is a tool for scooping gold powder and putting it in a powder Tube or scooping it.
段々と使っている金粉が少なくなってきた際に、薬包紙の上の金粉をすくうには重宝する道具です。
It is a useful tool for scooping gold powder on medicine wrapping paper when the amount of gold powder that can be used gradually decreases.
小さなスプーン型になったものや、平たくなったものなど様々あります。
私は少しだけ蒔きたいときには小さいスプーンタイプでちょっと粉筒に入れます。
There are various types such as small spoon-shaped ones and flattened ones.
このスプーンタイプの反対側の横長の平たい部分は漆をとって火で炙るときにも使います。
When I want to sow a little, I use a small spoon type and put it in a powder tube.
The horizontally long flat part on the opposite side of this spoon type is also used when putting lacquer on it and roasting it on fire.
大きい面や背景の地蒔きで一気に蒔くときに、それなりの量をすくうだろう時は平たい方を使います。個人的には平たい方がすくいやすいのでよく使います。
I use the flat one when I’m sowing on a large surface or background at once, and when I’m going to scoop up a reasonable amount. Personally, I often use it because it is easier to scoop flat.
粉匙も人によって使い勝手があるかもしれません。
The ease of use of spoon for powder may vary from person to person.
何気ない道具一つにちょっとした使い勝手もあるので、自分に合ったものをお使いになるのが一番かと思います。
そんな道具たちをこれから少しずつご紹介できればと思います。
I think it’s best to use the one that suits you, as each tool has a slight difference in usability.
